Tetraacetylethylenediamine (TAED) appears as blue, green, milky white or pink granules or powders, with a chemical formula of C10H16O4N2 and CAS number: 10543-57-4. Tetraacetylethylenediamine (TAED) easily reacts with peroxides to form peracetic acid in an alkaline environment. It has stronger bleaching and sterilization properties than hydrogen peroxide at lower temperatures and is usually used as a bleaching activator for peroxides. The main function of TAED is to be used as a bleaching activator in oxygen-containing bleaching systems, especially in detergents and papermaking industries, where its role is to improve the bleaching efficiency of peroxides such as hydrogen peroxide or perborate. At the same time, TAED helps reduce bleaching damage to cotton fabrics, and the reaction products can be biodegraded, making it an ideal bleaching aid.
Main uses of Tetraacetylethylenediamine (TAED):
Bleaching agent:
Bleaching of paper, fabrics, grease, etc.: TAED, as a bleaching activator for hydrogen peroxide, can improve the bleaching effect, especially at low temperatures.
Bleaching of textiles and clothing: During the bleaching process of textiles and clothing, TAED reacts with hydrogen peroxide to generate a strong oxidant, which decomposes the pigments and organic matter in the stains.
Detergents:
Improving the washing effect: TAED in detergent formulas can improve the bleaching effect and cleaning ability of peroxide, and is suitable for various surfactants and enzymes.
Sterilization and disinfection: TAED has a bactericidal effect and can effectively kill or inhibit the growth of microorganisms such as bacteria and mold.
Plastic industry:
Cross-linking agent and additive: In the field of plastics, TAED, as a cross-linking agent and additive, can improve the corrosion resistance of plastics and extend the service life.
Metal corrosion protection:
Metal corrosion inhibitor: TAED forms a protective film on the metal surface, preventing the metal from contacting the corrosive medium and slowing down the corrosion process of the metal.
Water treatment:
Oxidant: TAED, as a strong oxidant, can be used in the oxidation process in water treatment.
Disinfection and sterilization: By destroying the cell membranes of bacteria and viruses, killing microorganisms in the water, and ensuring the sanitation and safety of water quality.
Organic synthesis:
Reagents, solvents and catalysts: TAED is often used as a reagent in organic synthesis. It can be used for acylation and esterification reactions. It can also be used as a solvent and catalyst to promote certain organic synthesis reactions.
