Zirconium silicate is a kind of non-toxic, tasteless white or off-white powder, made from natural high purity zircon sand concentrate through ultra-fine crushing, iron removal, titanium processing, surface modification and other processes. It is high cost-effective ceramic glaze opacifier, whitening agent, anti-seepage agent, and stabilizer. Due to Zirconium silicate’s good chemical stability, it won’t be affected by the ceramic firing atmosphere and can significantly improve the bonding performance of ceramic body and glaze, and increase the hardness of ceramic glaze. It is widely applied in the production of architectural ceramics, sanitary ceramics, household ceramics, and first-class handicraft ceramics. Furthermore, zircon silicate is also applied in emulsification glass in glass industry, enamel glaze production.

In the whole production process, the sand source, production links, the performance of the finished powder and so on have done with stabilization treatment. According to the different requirements of customers, the products are divided into three grades: high performance zirconium silicate for household ceramic and sanitary ceramic class, architectural ceramic class and conventional zirconium silicate class. High-performance zirconium silicate is better than conventional zirconium silicate in terms of particle size, particle size distribution, particle morphology, opacity and dispersion effect in the medium while whitening and stabilizing. According to the results of nanometer class zirconium silicate used in production of ceramic and functional materials, it has the following characteristics.

(1) As an additive for ceramic glaze, zirconium silicate’s whiteness, strength, wear resistance, hydrolysis resistance and corrosion resistance are improved along with the grain size decreased within a certain range, and self-cleaning ability is enhanced and dosage is reduced.

(2) Due to the strong hydrolysis resistance, zirconium silicate powder can be used as the carrier of nanometer functional powder in water environment 

(3) Due to the strong oxidation resistance of nano-zirconium silicate, it can be used as a surface coating agent for functional powders.

(4) Due to the high strength and wear resistance of nano-zirconium silicate, nano-zirconium silicate powder is high quality grinding medium and raw material for engineering ceramics.
